Increased accurate customer orders for Wallpaper and Curtains
Led a team of 3 to develop a quiz/questionnaire framework for internal use
With a growing customer base, questions asking, “How much should I order?” continued to increase. Pepper’s COO created two spreadsheets for their Customer Experience (CX) representatives to use and asked me to create a web experience for their customers to calculate wallpaper and curtain purchase needs.
Research
Both wallpaper and curtains can be difficult to know exactly how much to order, but for different reasons. For wallpaper, the math is fairly simple based on the area that needs covered, but for curtains it can be quite complex based on the look you're aiming to achieve.
Plan
We needed a way to keep function separate so we could continue to iterate on new features without making changes to the overall style. We also needed a way for these calculators to function in different contexts (e.g. page, product page modal).
Execute
I led a team of 3 to develop a Preact template framework for both calculators as well as additional quizzes or questionnaires in the future. We quickly released and iterated on both calculators.
Customer service questions were reduced by 90% after launch. We continued to add features and iterate quickly when new products were added. Keeping the function and theme separate allowed designers and engineers to work separately on their tasks, and then quickly combine efforts and and launch.
This project allowed us to create an internal tool we could maintain and re-use for future work. It also allowed us to embed these calculators into different pages while seamlessly inheriting styles from the Shopify theme.
